This is my first post. I am looking for a flat surface tire and not the Metzer. It is a 130-90x16. I don't think I want to go with a car tire. I found only one that might work, from Coker Tire Store, Firestone 350S 16. Is this tire compatiable? After many alignment adjustments and three tires I'm in need of some advise. I bought this 563 Velorex last February and have logged 6,500 miles thus far.

3 tires in 6.400miles. Boy that is a lot.
First check your allignments and pressure.
Then, don't laught, I love the original Tcheck Mitas tire for its stiffness (more nylon plies then other MC tires). It lasts at least 8000 miles. I have now on my Jawa 29.885 km of which about 22.000km with the sidecar. And its second tire has still more then half life. I am preety sure the sidecar I changed only once, while the front twice and the back at least 4 times. Forget about the vietnam or chineese tires. some just last 2000km=1.250miles, while the Mitas lasts on the back about 6000miles.
Lonnie nearly allways has some of these tires.

Friends, by the way the new Husquarna engine for the Jawa is beeing to be rebuilt soon, the spares and electric starter are on their way.
That will become a blast, to pass the 350ccm aircooled 2 stroker with 29 hp to a watercooled 4 stroker with 48 hp. I hope the spokes and breaks will last the 49th horse on top of the bank squirling through the mountains.

Way back in the 60s, my Jawa single cyl. 250 broke a conrod. I couldn't get parts so I put in a Honda 305cc twin.
It was more powerfull and more dependable.
After some fun with that I mounted an off road sidecar and had a ball.
The frame looked very much like the frame on the Jawa 350 Californian twin. It is strong enough for a light sidecar
and did not have a lot of problem with stretching spokes. I would bet that since the Jawas of that age often carried sidecars in Europe that the wheels were engineered strong enough for the job.
If you don't fly the chair all the time your machine should be strong enough.

The 563 and the other Tour models use a much wider wheel with a 130/90/16 Motorcycle type tire, not the Mitas 3.50x16 sidecar tire used by the Cruisers and earlier Velorex models.
I've used the Dunlop Elite IIIs for replacement.

Lonnie, Thanks for the tip. I'll check out the Dunlop Elite III. I replaced the first one with a Dunlop 130-90x16 (404) Rear. Then I went with a Dunlop 130-90x16 (404) Front. However, I was fighting an alignment issue. I noticed these retro tires on line are flat surface, what I would like to go with, but don't know about the wear on these cosmeticaly correct tires.

Hello Phelonius,
The 2001 Jawa rig is nearly the same frame, engine (new one has oil dosing pump), and accesory as the 1962 model a neighbour owns. Just a little less round. And the engine as overheating as the old model.
Since I changed all spokes to the thick s/c size I never again had a broken spoke and only 2 more became loose. So my hope is that your experience will double.
But in deed the nut that conects handlebar and seat is possibly the reason of ALL the trouble I passed through with this bike...
As soon I see a nice trail into the mountains the 30th (in future 49th) horse can not stay back...
I guess a mule would be better for my weekend escapes then any motor vehicle.
Best wishes to the island from the Istmus.
Sven
