Swaybar source

Hi folks!

Trying to get all the parts collected for my sidecar build. I think I'm only lacking one thing - a swaybar assembly. Searching around the net for the straight type torsion tubes and shafts used on Sprint cars there's very limited sizes available. Seems that all vendors and mfgr's only sell 29", 30" and 31" maximum length, nothing longer!

I need about 48" total to cover the span between swingarms, so 31" would require about 8 1/2" offset torsion arms on each end of splined shaft. Seems like an awful lot of offset!?

There's lots of ready made automotive replacement torsion bars - swaybars that might work but they're model specific and nobody gives actual dimensions end to end to size them up.

Any ideas on a source for a longer splined swaybar tube or shaft?

After some research I'm beginning to suspect that it's not really necessary for a swaybar to be specially heat treated other than the splined ends. Wondering if a plain shaft or tube of 4140 chrome moly wouldn't do just fine without a heat treat, anybody got any information on that?

Thanks!

You can also try Claude Stanley at C Stanley Motorsports Corporation at www.freedomsidecars.com . Claude has done a lot of work with swaybars and I believe he has the tooling to make custom sizes. Good Luck!

Great, looks like a winner, Mark! Price is right too, thanks very much!

Near as I can tell that was the last major component needed except for the aluminum sheets for bodywork, good to go!

Thanks, Al! I spoke with Claude at length about hack suspension and he is the one that convinced me that I wanted a swaybar, even though I didn't know it at the time. When Claude says something really works good on a sidecar I sit up and take notice.

Hey, Zipper! Yeah, I'm a member over there too and have followed your excellent build! Love the new body by the way!! I'll check out your rollbar setup more closely, thanks for the info!
