suspension- springs or shocks?
Been thinking again... I have an R100/2 w Steib S500. Had new springs and Konis all around maybe 10 years ago. Set-up here in the mountains is a compromise because the roads are off-camber or normal, back and forth. I've been riding so that, on average, I push w my right arm a little more than the left.
I use the rig sans passenger 98% of the time. When I DO carry a load, I notice I use my right arm a lot more. May I assume that's because the extra weight is pulling more?
I've been thinking that one reason I have the rig set up so I push more with the right hand is that right turns can get hairy in that the rig feels like an old Buick...like it rolls some. The question here is, do I need new/heavier/stifffer springs or shocks?
More lean out to get rid of pull to the right on straight stretches of road. But...probably will make rig more 'tipsey' in right handers. Stiffer suspension on bike will help this.
Then you add a passenger and bike tilts to the sidecar side and pull to right is back again. Stiffer sidecar suspension would help take this away.
Options? Some type of tilt or lean adjuster or a swaybar.
Hey Ernie
Here's that lean adjuster thing that they were fussing over on that other post!!!!
Good luck
Claude- I'm going from memory here, but I'm pretty sure the car is sprung from inside the frame, so unless I have low tire pressure, I don't think the extra weight would lean the bike in more- would it? As far as stiffer suspension goes, may I assume since the bike doesn't bounce around much that I only need stiffer springs (can't remember if the springs and shocks are seperate now- it's been so long since the set-up)?
Lenny- I looked through the albums and there are just too many. However, as I've had several BMW rigs before that worked great- as has this one until I started paying attention- the idea of putting something like a lean-out-ometer, or whatever, just seems .. . well... I just can't do it.
