Hay peeps

1995 GL1500se

Steering locked and unable to free up. Doused liberally with WD40 etc no luck so far. Key gets nowhere near the locked position. Parked on grass so i am going to try jacking up the front of the outfit to take the weight off the front wheel etc so where is the best point to lift the front from?

Steve

So you jack the wing up on the engine itself? Not sure i like the sound of that, seems to go against common sense.

Steve, place a wide piece of 1/2" plywood between the motor case and the jack to spread the weight, then jack it up. Have done it several times to remove the front wheel.

Thanks CC

It goes against what i have been told about using jacking points etc, anything but the engine itself. So you step back and think i dunno about that, you question what you know. Equally that is never a bad idea =)

on the 1500 wing, put the jack under the front mount for the sidecar as close to the bike as possible safely

I use a piece of 2" Styrofoam insulation between the engine block and board.  This way the Styrofoam forms to the block and you not putting all the pressure on one part of the block. Being doing this over the last 30 plus years with no problems.
