Recently mounted a Terraplane on a gs Suzuki. Works well with sufficient power. Built subframe, mounts and added a swaybar. Good tug!!
I think your bike would make a neat rig! The best advice is to shop around for a good installer. Pay the extra $'s upfront pays off big dividends.

The Russian sidecars are stout! What looks like a roll bar on a Sputnik is really a support for the soft top.
The Escort is a great sidecar but is about double what you are looking to spend.
Lots of things are nice like leading link front ends but not needed and again will run the price well above the $3K mark.
I suspect that the kit we make for the 850 will work on the 1000 in which case it is a do it your self affair if you have good mechanical skils.

Well I took the plunge and purchased a Ranger sidecar from Texas Side Cars.
I keep you updated with my progress in getting it installed.
I want to thank everyone here for your help. I'm sure I'll be asking more questions as the project unfolds.
