I live in MO so every once in a while I search the State statutes for sidecar just to see what they have to say about sidecars.

http://www.moga.mo.gov/statutes/c300-399/3070000045.htm

Headlamp on motor vehicles--violations, penalty.
307.045. 1. Except as in this chapter provided, every motor vehicle other than a motor-drawn vehicle and other than a motorcycle shall be equipped with at least two approved headlamps mounted at the same level with at least one on each side of the front of the vehicle. Every motorcycle shall be equipped with at least one and not more than two approved headlamps. Every motorcycle equipped with a sidecar or other attachment shall be equipped with a lamp on the outside limit of such attachment capable of displaying a white light to the front.

2. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 307.120, violation of this section shall be deemed an infraction.

So a taillight or trunsignal isn't required, assuming the bike's work but a front right driving light is. Now just how many law enforcement guys know this? Probably not too many.

Sometimes you need to look further than just MC regulations. Here in Wisconsin, ALL MOTORIZED VEHICLES are to have a brake light, marker light(tail), and turn signal within ten inches of the outside edge of the vehicle. The law doesn't differentiate between car, truck, motorcycle, or tractor. I got tagged for that with my HitchHiker. I had a tail/turn light out there but no brake light.
Likewise, in Minnesota I was pulled over for having removed the bulb from the right turn signal on the bike because I had one on the sidecar. (As is required in Wisconsin).
They stated, again for all vehicles, that any light on the vehicle even if not oem must be functioning.

I've never had a turn signal on my sidecar, just a tail light brake light combination and a headlight, but like Mike said if you have lights they probably should work.

You bet Joe,Sidecars in the Flint Hills
September in Council Grove. Check my signature for webpage and information.
