Sidecar newbie
I didn't think I'd be interested in a sidecar but I'm considering it now. My wife can't ride with me much and I'd really like to be able to take her more often and even the entire family for a trip on the bike (me, wife and son). This website is the best sidecar site I've found so I'm hoping to get some ideas and suggestions.
My bike is a 2004 Kaw Nomad 1500. I've also looked at almost all the sidecar manufacturers websites. That just made the project more confusing. I want the bike/car setup permanent, I know that I could take the car on and off but once it's setup correctly I'd like it to stay that way. Now, with that said, most of my riding (driving?) with the sidecar will be solo. How hard is it going to be to drive the bike/car combo solo? Is there anything else I'm missing?
Thanks
Fred
Fred,
I am sure that it won't be long for you until the real hardcore sidecar addiction sets in. These things are a ton of fun and have a way of letting the whole family enjoy the sport.
Be sure to get a sidecar that has some weight to it. There are many good sidecars out there that would 'look the part' so to speak on a Nomad that woudl serve you well.
As far as running the sidecar empty it will be no problem with a well matched rig. If you want to add some ballast there is nothing wrong with that either.
Be sure to read Hal Kendall's books that are offered free at this site. The link to get to them is in my signature below.
One of the largest gatherings of sidecars, if not the largest, in this country is coming up here in central Pa August 3-6th. It is called the ISOK International Sidecar RON DEE VOO. More info will be posted here in a day or so and also at the site of th eISOK known as SCT. The link to that site is also in my signature below. If you can make it to the event even if for only a day you woudl be able to meet many sidecar nuts and see many many diferent rigs.
Welcome aboard.
