Routine Sidecar Maintenance
Sidecars aren't particularly complex machines, but like all machines they do need maintenance. What comes to mind are:
- Tire inflation
- Tire wear/replacement
- Wheel bearing lubrication and preload
- Wheel spoke tightening/truing (on spoked wheels)
- Brake (if so equipped)
- Drive shaft (if so equipped)
- Fastener retorquing -- gondola and frame mounting
- Signal light checks/replacement
- Wiring, fuses, relays, power outlets
- Suspension checks (if so equipped) -- springs, shock absorber, mounting rubber/hardware
- Sheet metal/frame integrity -- cracks, rust and corrosion
- Windshield
- Seatbelt
Did I say they're not particularly complex? Well, maybe not compared to a motorcycle, but there's still a lot of things to look after.
So, any recommendations on how to properly maintain a sidecar? Did I miss any service items?
