rle/tle harleys
Has anyone ever put an RLE sidecar on a FLHS or FLHT?
Hi: As far as I know the sidecars are the same. That being said--I think the only difference is that the RLE was meant to be mounted on a FXR , and needed FXR specific mounts. The hacks should be the same. Hope this helps.
Thanks, Hank. The front upper arm on the RLE has a heim joint instead of flat with bolt hole and the rear joint has a longer connecting tube and I'm not sure if they need to be changed to fit my '91 FLHS. The sidecar is a '90.
Every thing I read from Harley they said the only HD they recommend for a sidecar was the touring bikes. I would think the mounts would be the same on both the FXR and the big touring bikes as the frame is the same on both. Might not be on some of the newer bikes.
This may help. They where made for the FXRT which was a touring bike and a very good one but they did not sell well.

Thanks so much for that link, it helped me to decide to keep the car instead of selling it. I'm following up mounnting parts leads from a dealer/friend in Anderson, SC...Timms Harley Davidson. Robin, in parts, is a Godsend for helping people out and very knowledgeable. I'm in the Toccoa, Georgia area, nice to meet a homeboy on here. I really appreciate everyone's help, I haven't had a sidecar since my 1947 knuckle was stolen in '96. You folks are the best!
hiway do you know about the Georgia Sidecar club? A little late but we are having a camp out this weekend from the 16-18 at Reed Bingham State Park near Adel GA. If you are interested in the club PM me.
Really sorry to hear about your 47. I use to have a 46u flat head 74 but did not have a hack on it.
Harley still sells parts for HD sidecars. The cheapest place I found for new parts is Lake Shore HD.
No, I didn't but I would be interested. I'm currently working 7 days a week (at 65 years old) but that will change soon and I can enjoy some recreation I hope.
I've done business with Lakeshore before, thanks for the tip, they used to do shovelhead no-lead conversions for us.
Have fun this weekend.
I will send you a PM today with more information.

Hi again--- Don't want to come off as a know it all---but I believe you will find that the FXR/RLE mounts are very much different than the FLH mounts. The fxr frame looks somewhat like the FLF frame but is quite different. I have had an FXR since 1987, and looked into mounting a rle/tle and found that finding FXR mounts was like looking for the proverable needle in a hay stack. Fxr /rle mounts from the local HD stealership were out of my price range. and turned me in the direction of a different hack. Had a Velorex --ok but ended up with a Sputnik that suits me just fine. With both hacks I ended up building my own mounts and /or suspension upgrades. Hopes this Info helps--e-mail me if I can be of more help. P.S. If you get the rle with the mounts--you probably will be easily able to sell them as they are quite scarce.
You're correct, they are quite different. I have most of the fxr connections if you know anyone interested in trading or buying them. No stealership prices here, we're all in this together.
Are all of them different? If now what ones will work and what is the difference? Just like to know. I sure wish they made the FXRT which was a great bike just not popular.
Thanks
Jeff
