Rear turn signals
Does any one know if the rear turn signal lens has to be yellow? I'm in Oregon if the state makes any difference.

Red, amber or white are acceptable. Some officers will stop you for "Blue dot" lenses which glow purple and will certainly stop (cite) you for having blue lights showing from any position since that color is reserved for police emergency lighting.

Here in Wisconsin they frown on white showing any direction but forward. OK for front signals, not for back.
YES - the state does make a difference. Many are adopting the Federal standards - but not all. If in doubt, check the official State code.
The State of Oregon is one of the states that has deceided to addopt the FMVSS Code of lighting - #108, covered in CFR, Code of Federal Regulation Title 59 - a copy is at http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/DMV/docs/vcb/2003VCB.pdf
This code is under major revisions as we speak and you can comment on it.
Basically, re turn signals - Front: White or amber
To the rear: Red, or amber, or yellow.
BLUE is NOT acceptable - this is reserved for police and emergencies.
Suggest you go there for all details re height, placement, etc.
Thanks guys. Hal, I brought the Oregon web site up and the way I read it, blue dots are legal if the vehicle was manufactured before 1959 and tail and brake are in the same housing and the insert is smaller than one inch in diameter and the lens is red. Unfortunately, not all Officers know that. Neither did I until now, and this has nothing to do with sidecars (unless they were made prior to 1959).I'll shut up now.
