Hi All, first post, so I should probably give a quick intro before I dive into the questions. I'm 23 and I've built a Triton. The Triton is really just a Norton Atlas with a unit 750cc Triumph engine in it. My dad bought the Norton that I used new when he was 21, and I'd bought the Triumph I used when I was 22.

I've always wanted a sidecar rig, and a while ago I thought I'd sell my 2004 Moto Guzzi Breva 750 and get one, like a Dnepr or an old Ural. Then I decided that it'd be best to just sell the Guzzi and get a Velorex 562 for the Triton (the Velorex was Doug's idea from Sidestrider, I'd been thinking of a Cozy at first).

Well the Guzzi didn't sell, and my car just ate my bankroll. I've got a metal shop, and some of my friends go to school for mechanical engineering and have access to all the tools that I don't.

Right, to the point. I've been working on bikes, cars, trucks for ages now. I'd like to try to build a sidecar, if I draw it up my friends at WPI will weld the frame up. They have a roll of fiberglass for the body, and if that falls through I can do it with wood.

I figure I can source a wheel and shock off ebay. I was wondering, or hoping more like it, that one of you who has a 562 might be willing to measure the frame or draw it out for me? The wheel hight from the axle to the ground. Width of frame, leangth, you know what I mean. A bird's eye sketch and measurements.

I know its a lot to ask from folks I don't know, and who don't know me, haha, but it's worth a shot.

Thanks.

Hi, before you go through all that trouble, you might consider buying just a frame and making the body yourself. I'll have a couple sidecar rigs in NH in early February that I'll be taking down to Daytona. They are Chang Jiangs and the frame is very stout. If you haven't started your project by then, come up and take a look at the frame. You can buy one new for not alot of money, and there may be a frame or two in the states that could be bought cheap. Worse comes to worst you could always measure and photograph it and try and copy it.
Regds,
Jim

Sounds fair, thanks.

I did a rough measurement and made a drawing in (good old) AutoCAD R14 when I built my leaner rig. It doesn't show strut attachment points or suspension.
Let me know if you want it.

I would. That would be excellent.

Here it is.
It's not really meant for fabrication. I drew it to design a subframe for my leaner rig. So there is not enough info.

Just one very important aspect!
Don't use 15mm for axle! Jawa uses some strange material that lasts on a small bike not a big one. Use minimum diameter 20mm better 25mm crome moly steel like 4140 as axle.
