Painting Fiberglass & Stainless Steel Mounting Hardware
Would like some guidance from the membership regarding the prep & repainting of a a Velorex 565 body. I'm joining the Velorex to my Honda Goldwing (1200) and want to match the Honda Wineberry color. This is not an imediate issue as I want to join & tune the rig first then proceed to the aesthetics. I have done some small painting on metal (fenders, tank, etc.) but not on fiberglass-gelcoat such as the Velorex.
I'm currently in "research & planning" mode and would appreciate any guidance from those with experience(s)on this or related issues.
Also, on the various threads in both General and Technical forums I've read about replacing the standard steel mounting hardware for a sidecar with stainless. Those of you who have went this route, are there vendors with pre-packaged kits for say my Velorex 565 or is this something that is done on a one-for-one basis.
As always, all advice and guidance is very much appreciated.

Painting a fiberglass sidecar is just like painting a fiberglass boat and here is a very good link to doing that.

There will be others come along to tell you about mounts.
Any good automotive paint store will gladly sell you all you need: Wax and grease remover, plastic prep, flex additives (for parts that maybe flexable), wet sandpaper, sanding paste, primers and paint. Best instructions are usually on the products.
I believe your wineberry is a tricoat, that is, it has a basecoat, colorcoat (candy), and topcoat (clear). An exact match can be a challenge. If your experience is limited, stop bay most any bodyshop or bodyshop training facility and chat with their painter. Make sure you have good lighting and ventilation (The isocyanates in today's paint catalysts truly are "bad boys".
There was a wineberry Honda/EML rig at the last USCA National--man did that paint look gooooood in the sunshine! Danny
Richard,
Thanks for the tip on the boatcando website. Went there and was able to glean some good info.
Danny,
Likewise appreciate your info, I'm going to see what sort of auto paint suppliers we have in the local area. No luck so far on the conversion to stainless mounting hardware but I'll run that down somewhere.
