I know this has come up, time and time again, but thought about another good ballest source, cat litter! No, not used, but a new unopened bag. Carried in a bag for the wife today, and for a small bag it was heavy! 40lb. And the bag is practically rip proof. What ya'all think?

Why buy cat litter when you can fill some bag with any sand/small stones? Cat litter isn't too heavy itself - contains large amounts of air inside each piece. The same volume of dry sand will be much heavier, much cheaper and wouldn't collect a moisture from air when bag is punctured.
