FYI, there's a really nice article regarding the two-wheel drive Ural in Cycle World Magazine this month, Feb. '07 Issue. Peter Egan and his wife, Barbara, borrowed one from the importer and took a nice jaunt in it and do a road test.
He mentions that he was told not to use the two-wheel feature on the pavement. The importer told him that it's only for dirt or soft roads since there's no differential. He liked the reverse gear, too!
Generally, the article is very positive. It's well-written by Mr. Egan, as is usual for his articles. I suggest anyone who is interested in possibly purchasing a Ural should read it.
I don't buy Cycle World very often, but last sunday afternoon I saw it on the rack at Walmart and had to buy it when I noticed that article. it was well worth the price of the mag for that one article.
