Getting a Hannigan GTL for my Honda GL-1800a in 6-8 weeks. I have seen rigs with car tires front and rear on the bike. Is there any reason not to do this? Had a blowout on the rear on my '03 GL1800a, and didn't know the tire was flat until 12 miles later. No problems with control, just a little wobble on a turn. Now I see a bike on the Hannigan site with a sidecar and a car tire in the front. Good idea? Bad idea?

Ride safe

You'll have a bigger contact patch with a car tire, lending more stability. You'll get better mileage out of a tire. I think the width of the tire(s) also lends some stability that helps to keep the car on the ground.

It is a whole lot harder to fly the car on purpose!

I have a BMW/EZS rig with car tires all around - the sidecar will get light in a right hander but doesn't leave the ground.

Something to consider.

I also run a car tire on the rear of my GL1800/GTL rig. The firest was a Pireli "run flat". the secong is a Dunlop. The only issues I am aware of with the RF tires are 1, very difficult to mount on the narrower GW wheel, due to extremely stiff side walls, and 2., mileage wasn't all that great. I use a Goldwing 1500 rear tire on the front, in reverse direction (got this off the GL1800 Forum). Harder rubber. Extremely long mileage (I have 10k+ on mine and no visible wear).I was not able to find a car tire that was narrow enough to fit on the front wheel, but if you find one, or if someone else is aware of one, I would love to try it.I was also concerned (just a little) that a car tire on the front might make steering a bit harder?? I have the different triple trees on mine, but in the mountains the steering still gets a little tiring after a 100 miles or so. Not at all sure if this would be an issue. You will love the GTL. David, the installer, is a member of this forum, and is a really great guy.Greg
