New sidecar rider
Hi everyone, I have been riding motorcycles for over 40 years and just recently purchased a 2005 Roadking with a TLE sidecar. It is the most fun bike to ride. I also have a 2004 Superglide, a 1999 buell X1, 1998 1200 sporster and a 1991 spring softail .
when they are set up right they really are fun to ride

Welcome to the world og sidecaring.

It is a hole new thing riding a rig. Get the manuals out of the download section and start practicing as you were as youngster.
On my first day 13.12.86 I went straight into the pasture in 3 bends on 140km, and the next day I whacked off a road side plock. After I had allready some 100.000km on my personell tach.
Be cautious specially when you fell getting confortable, then you will react as you are used to.....right the opposite of what you need to!!!!!
Don't forget the ballast!

Hi New Rider:
Welcome π
Pay attention to Sven... It takes a while to retrain your brain. Some of our reaction habits are correct for a motorcycle, but not a sidecar rig.
Practice, practice
Ride safe, have fun, and be prepared for waving and chatting with complete strangers. π

Thanks for the good info. And yes it is not like riding a bike. My first ride I forgot the side car was their and hit a tree branch that was on the side of the road. I put over 2,000 miles on it . Purchased a sidecar service manual And tried different setups. Ended up with 1 deg in on the bike and 3/4 in toe in. I thnk Im happy with the way it handles.
Thanks again for the info.
Advice to new riders.
NEVER point the oil drain plug at the sun while riding. It is bad luck to do so.

Well I did so at -28ΒΊC somewhere in the south of Norway in January 87 after owning the rig about 3 weeks.
Luckily I had 1m of snow below when I made the 3/4 salto mortale in the left ditch.
Even spikes will not grip allways!
Best wishes to all and enjoy the snow while I wave through the mountains at 24ΒΊCand laughing sun with my new work horse.

Okay, a new member of the club.
I did so at about 50 or 60 on a sunny day.
Good thing I was drunk or I might have been hurt bad. Just a concussion and the feeling next day of having won second prize in a ballpeen hammer fight.

My dad`s bike had just 2 tinny scratches on the flash lights, while he himself had full dammage,
so the drunk argument is not that valid....
Sven
Obviously your dad was probably inexperienced at crashing or in experienced at being drunk.
In my stupid youth, I was expert at both.
Phelonius

Dad passed by now 1 year and a week ago. His soal and his widdow may excuse:
He was experienced in both...Who else would have passed with a Horex Regina through the 2 gates of a barn and finish (the exhibition of stupidity) with a drop down from the loading platform?....
I would have loved to ride grandfathers Regina myself too. as well as several other vehicles he scrapped or sold.
Since a buddy of mine let us and his bike placed in the front garden of a neigbour allthough I had warned him about ice in the S-bend I never again drove drunken or acompanied somebody else drunken!
Better sleep out the hang over somewhere in the snow or bus stop (still today that is safer then wake up in unknown beds) then make nonsence and play the ridiculous.
