First post ,glad I found this site. I am currently riding a 2002 FLHTCUI w/sidecar. I am enjoying it so much that I am thinking of changing the hack to my 2011 FLHTP. I know the 2011 is different frame and was wondering what would be involved in making the switch. Thanks for any info.

Many other people know more about the Harley sidecars then I do assuming that this is a Harley sidecar. If it is a Harley sidecar you will get good answers on this forum. Should you wish to change over to a non Harley sidecar in order to get a sidecar with suspension as well as a sidecar that is much easier to get in and out of and possibly with a trunk that opens from the out side and even locks we can help you with either just mounts (again for non Harley sidecars) or an entire sidecar. One very nice thing about going with the newer bike is that you can run an automotive tire on the stock rear wheel. The Automotive wheel will last a lot longer, give you better traction, better ride as it runs at a lower pressure, a higher load capacity and if you needed to, it can be plugged or patched. For your bikes we offer triple tree's to lower the steering effort and even have real engine driven reverse that can be added to the bikes.
You might find that if you do not intend to keep the 2002 that by the time you pull the sidecar off of it, buy the needed mounts for the newer bike, paint the sidecar to match that you would have been much better off selling the 2002 with the sidecar on it and starting over.

Jaydmc, thanks for the response.what you say may be the way to go. I have been looking at the Champion Legend or Vintage, just not sure. I would like to stay HD w/HD hack.Paint and labor would be done in house to save some money. Really was hoping to get a parts list from someone that has put a side car on the newer(2009----2013) HD frame.

I forgot I had this one, it is information for the 09 installation. I found this just by googling TLE installation instructions I think. I don't know if 2011 is different.

Here is a later revision of the same document but I haven't gone through it to see what's different. Found it with a google search.

The 2011 sidecar service manual will tell you what you need to know if those documents aren't enough. There should be several for sale on ebay. Good luck.

Thanks gain Davet, I had not looked for the manual, because I was thinking that Harley quit making the sidecar in 2010 . Between the parts and service manuals they will give me everything I need. Thanks for the info!!

the current frame is basically similar to the 10

the mounts for the last year of hd factory sidecars were quite different from previous mounts -

kickstand lock so the bike will start
frame brace under the bike because the removable frame section they worry will make it too weak so there is a plate for the bottom

the rest are just variations on what was before.

putting a sidecar on a new bike requires some way to deal with the kickstand start issue - the starter won't work unless the stand is out and depressed and the clutch lever is pulled in .....

the bike and trike frames are similar but the trike frames use heavier tubing - hd makes this plate for the underside that deals with the issue.

i have often wondered if a trike frame could be procured to make a sidecar bike... hmmm... the parts diagram show just the rear section is different but the part numbers are different for the front - who knows without having them side by side and a caliper and a thickness tester.

On all 2008 and later Harley s they sold a frame brace as these late frames where not as strong as the earlier Harley s. Some say not necessary but Harley made them for a reason.
