Need longer lasting tires

Hi All

I have a Honda Shadow 1100/Sputnik rig. Seems like the bikes' tires wear down quickly. I realize they will wear more down the middle because they don't lean. I have Dunlop 404's on now. They don't wear unevenly, just quick. Pressures are correct.

I'm looking for a longer lasting tire. Any ideas?

THANKS
Gary in Maryland

I like check Mitas tires for bike style but possibly too small for your biketire or better change to car tires.
Chineese no thanks.

Gary, I have a Shadow 1100T with a Calf. sidecar, as far as a car tire goes good luck, the problem is the width of the swing arm there's not enough room width wise for a tire the dia that's close to the OEM size and in my case because I have a 16" rim I'm stuck with OEM tires, if you have a 15" rim I'm not sure just what your options are but a car tire isn't one of them, one thing that was suggested to me, which I can't do, is go to a cheap tire, not because it's cheap but because it isn't made of a duel compound, the contention is that the duel compound tires (hard in the center soft on the outside)scrub off faster because of thee heat generated but a single compound won't do that, how true it is I don't know because I can't do it, I'm stuck with 2 or 3 MC tires that even on a good day wouldn't be considered cheap.

both perelli and BFG fab 15" and 16" car tires in the 155-165 width range, serious considerations are required before you change the style of tires you use,ie: flat car , rounded bike, ...tread pattern, ...handelling... excess wear usually means a misalignment issue somewhere in the set-up,...my 800 marauder runs a BFGoodrich radial, 155/60/15 with a factory mag and swingarm,.....my 2 cents, cheers, crawf.

If you can fit Metz 880's on the front, they will go a long, long time. I run them on my Montauk with an auto tire on the back. A 165/15. The auto tires will go 20 to 40 k depending on your riding style and the pressure you maintain. I keep 42 in the Metz and 36 in the car tire. Currently running a Brazilean made Goodyear, that seems to be wearing quite well. Expect 30K out of it.

The 880 Marathon tire is a great rain tire due to the deep tread design. However the soft rubber compound doesn't wear as well as the 501-502 Dunlop Elite, which has a much harder compound and a shallower tread pattern.

I have been using Dunlop Touring Elite 2's for over 20 years, now using E3's. Been getting arround 10-11000 miles on them and have a GL1100 Goldwing with a Watsonian sidecar. And they are cheaper than Metzlers.

I barely hit 10,000 miles on my Dunlops,...I have 25,000 on the BFG and it looks brand new, for only $69.00..........something to think about for long distance touring,....cheers crawf.
