I am thinking of buying a sidecar for my 1989 Goldwing 1500. My back is in fairly bad shape and two wheels are out. I found a Friendship sidecar at a very resonable price. I believe it is a Friendship 2. It was mounted to a 1984 1200 Goldwing. This model was built in California and has two rounded rectangular lights on the back of the car. Will I need totally different mounts for the 1500 Goldwing? Thanks in advance.

The short answer is yes. The nice thing though is that if you call Motorvation, 1-800-305-3664, they will tell you which pieces can be re-used. My Formula II came off of a Harley Davidson. When I bought it for my Moto Guzzi, I only had to replace one piece out of ten to make it work.

Why not call California Sidecar, the manufacturer?
If the California sidecar has ball and collets instead of Heim joint (rod end) lower mounts it is an early model with torsional suspension.
At best you will need 2 bosses with the heim joints and a GL1500 sub-frame to attach it.
If torsional suspension it may need new torsion straps and bushings.
CSC used to have changeover kits to adapt older cars to coil over shock suspension but I don't think this option is available any more.
The 1989 and later CSC cars had both trailing link suspension and heim joint mounts.

You might want to contact Dauntless Motorsin Enumclaw, Washington.

They made the mounts for my 89 GoldWing to Friendship II conversion. some years ago. They also changed the suspension to a better system. The only problem I ever had was that the Friendship II is a little light for the 1500 but with enough ballast you are ok.
