I am building an HD vintage style car. I approached the build the wrong way. I plug welded a 1/2" angle around the perimeter of the inside of both side pieces so I could plug weld the top pieces. Well using 1/8" angle and plug welding 18 ga. body panels ended up warping the side pieces. My question is how are the sides and top pieces attached to each other. I think the angle idea is all wrong.

DeeW, you are obviously putting too much heat into too large of an area at one time. What welding equipment are you using? With a TIG or MIG welder you should be able to tack weld the edges together with tacks one inch apart until you get the whole thing together. Then put a tack between those tacks and so on until there is no room for any more tacks....and you are done. grind smooth and tack any flaws.
