I am in need of some guidance.Β  IΒ  completed a sidecar rig last year, BMW K100RS and a Vetter Terraplane, with hookups provided by DMC. After several thousand miles of piloting the rig, which has been a learning experience and great fun I have decided to replace the OEM front end with a leading link unit manufactured for this rig. My shoulders finally cried Uncle enough for the change to be made. My question, for those who have run rigs with the bikes OEM front end and transitioned to a leading link is this. Is it likely that I will have to make any adjustments to the rig after I swap out the front ends and if so, what adjustments will I have to consider? I would like to be informed from a safety standpoint, so as to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Many of the members have far more experience than I, so I humbly ask for your help.Β

If the leading link does not change the ride height, then you should not have to make any changes to the alignment. There is a very quick learning curve as at first you may tend to over steer do the steering being much lighter. Many leading links are adjustable for height so before you install the unit take a measurement so that you can set the height right back to where it is now.

While we have in the past made a link for your bike, we are not currently making them. We are just too busy with other work. We are hiring one or two people a week at this time and have nearly double production however we are still running a 6 month back log on building sidecars. We could start producing things like this link again should we get to a point where we are needing additional work. I would not count on this for at least a year.
