I dropped a posting into the general discussion on the possibility of building a rig that could fit on either side of a bike, making it less alarming for the passenger, when leaving the UK for the 90 odd percent of the world that seems intent on driving on the wrong side of the road..........

would really apreciate anyone giving their grey matter a workout on this one !!

It's not worth it, IMHO. the cost would be astronomical, including a new frame (if it were a Harley, anyway). This is not to mention the labor involved in changing back and forth.

You say the purpose would be to "make it less alarming to the passenger"? I'd have to think about that for a while, along with your thoughts regarding who is driving on the wrong side of the road.

🙂

FYI: There is noise on the net that Great Britain is (finally) considering joining the rest of the world (except Japan) in going to right side driving in the near future. If this occurs your problems are over.

Could happen!

I've set up a few lefties for drivers with handicaps and the scary part for the passenger happens when the driver pulls into the oncoming lane to check traffic to pass. By the time the driver is far enough over to see the road ahead the passenger is definitely in harms way. It can be riskier without a passenger to yell at the driver if there is oncoming traffic.

Being British, I know the chance's of change are slim, It is one of possibly several failings that we believe everyone else is probably wrong and should change to the way we do things !!

I was wondering about some form of subframe on the bike, so that it would be a matter of just switching it around with some fiddiling to get it set right ??

possibly quicker than persuading either my 10% or your 90% of the world to drive on the right side or even the same side of the road..

It depends on the bike. On a Harley FL, there's no room under the engine for a subframe, that is, if a safe ground clearance is to be maintained.

As to your persuading us to drive on the left side of the road, that's not happening any time soon. But I mean that in a nice way. 🙂

I guess that persuading you that there are other makes of bikes beyond Harley is also out of the question ???? lol 🙂

Yes, that's correct. Is that what you had in mind? LOL. If you would be so kind, perhaps, in passing, possibly as nothing more than an aside, as to hint at what brand of motorcycle it is to which you are referring, then perhaps we could talk about it.

Absent that, it's all Harley talk. 🙂

Pete,
The resolution I posted in your General Discussion inquiry will even work for many Harleys (the bikes, not their sidecars).

After a 100+ years of driving on the wrong side and they change it do you really think his problems would be over,,,think about that 🙂
