I get blasted for my views by some, and I'm not wanting to offend, so I'd thought I'd start my own thread about my ideas and members that have high fuel milages. If you feel your getting very high fuel mileages, feel free to post.

There are those in the forum that are interested.

Here is a little tid-bit.

Bio-Diesel BMW can be seen here. There is a little video also.

Please note, I think the sound was off as this engine is not as loud as the video makes it out to be.

Here is the same engine w/turbo in a Snow mobile project at a Univerity

I look forward to those that are interested, and those members that are not interested, feel free to post else where.

Dave

I like the idea of a diesel engine on a bike. I've seen several on the web and all look good and are more powerful and last longer than a gas engine. What are we waiting for? Anybody got an engine to replace my Kawa 1600 classic engine?

I like the idea too. That is if I can stay with the V-Twin configuration. I sure like the idea of fantastic mileage...

That is wondeful, I like the positve attitude. Two thumbs up. Just think, we could get a coulpe of diesel bikes built, and we could have the Very First Diesel Bike Rally, UK is working on thier 4th, and Germany on thier Seventh, The good ol USA is getting left behind.

Another tidbit.

May I ask why do you want a V-Twin? Is it because you like the looks? They did look good in the old Vincents, and V-twins do look good because that's the old look and are what the public wants (Now) because of the new Harley revolution, that’s why we see them, but very inefficient. That is why you rarely see V-twin engines (gas or Diesel) in industrial applications. Industries want to make money, so they use what works, not what sells.

I remember when Harley almost went under, anyone else remember? The British revolution, Japanese bikes were selling like hot cakes, and those damn know everything Germans with the BMW Boxer style engines that are the most efficient. But no one but Harley had V-twins anymore.

So first, if we want to look at Diesels, we have to look at what’s available now. There is a V-Twin, Yanmar, but almost unobtainable in a horizontal crankshaft configuration. The more public demand, sooner it will become reality.

I can also back up my statements with facts, I'm not at all trying be mean. But facts are facts, and sometimes the truth hurts. Please feel to ask and maybe we all can learn something. And I know, sometimes the truth hurts.

I'd like to ask, how many in the forum are runnig an old computer with 4 megs of ram and a 286 processor? a 1400 baud modem? I'm not going to bad mouth you if you do.

I restored an old Hemi GTX years ago, Hemi parts were like hens teeth, the demand became so great now you can by new Hemi engines and clones on eBay!

Same car 22 years later, it's in someones collection.

My reason for wanting the V-twin is to keep my Harley looking like a Harley regardless of which pump I fill up at. Just not quite open minded enough to consider anything else...

I have always liked the way they looked, I've owned Three, Pretty bikes, I've always had a soft spot for Pan Heads.

A teaser tidbit, look at what I found today...... Harley riders don't look! I'll post in the forum.

Of course, if you get a boxer twin diesel engine you could always tell your buddies that your bike is one of the 1000 XA models made during WW-II that copied the BMW military bikes... πŸ˜‰

Yes! Harley-Davidson actually copied BMW during the war trying to make a bike that would be more reliable in the heat of the desert, etc... Testing proved that the oil stayed 100 degrees cooler than the traditional V45 design.

I understand why the heat builds up; if I had awhile I could explain exactly why that is. Has alot to do with the laws of viscosity and adhesion - N. Tesla

If I had a little coin, I'd like this engine from Subaru in a Goldwing or BMW, this could be my dream engine.

The new 4 cylinder Subaru Boxer Turbo Diesel engine, that bike would scream @ 65+ mpg, and it's no bigger than a Goldwing motor + or - a few inches, who cares, I'll make it fit, I want a Honda Rune front end also, a beautiful front end. Yea, thats the ticket, a Cherry flavored Bio-Diesel fueled Honda Rune CRD, you could blast down the hwy smelling like a cherry pie, seriously, what a concept. Hear that Santa Claus, thats what I want under the tree, and hey, whats with this coal I'm getting every year?
