Hmmmm, a rag top, eh......? I'll have to think about that. I don't want my wife to get too comfortable in the rig.

FINALLY - today i got the manual... took 6 months.. some actual answers...

1 my 2007 does need a roll over switch added, some years do & some dont & of course there are THREE different sidecar switches so you have to have the right one.... see chart xxx - there is a comment that for "short use" dont bother, there are three different part numbers of the roll over switch im trying to figure out if the one i have is the proper one for a 2006 & 2007. may have to get a different one. its installed behind the battery out of sight [have to remove the batt] the factory switch is installed where it can be seen & the sidecar one piggy backs on and is underneath on the fender - they are both wired directly to the turn signal harness and so...

2 it must be programmed via the harley digital technition program - three versions - pick the right one

3 there are THREE different programs they have to choose from, one for the TSM, one for the TSSM & one of the HFTM... ie turn signal module, turn signal security module, hands free turn signal security module.. so the guy running the computer has to load the RIGHT program for the module installed and a choice of three different roll over switch's - no wonder we could not guess the right combination - now i know the combination so ill get it done in short order

4 all electronics for sound changed completely between 05 & 06 so now there is another incompatibility break at the 05/06 line. sidecars and bikes across that line need a totally new wire harness & dash in the sidecar - about 1 K bux going from a 05 car to a 06+ bike - about 1.5 K bux going the other way..

5 all the brake and mount bits have a break at 06/07.. parts before 06 will not fit 07 and vice versa.

this means that a 06 harley sidecar is a ONE YEAR ONLY unit.. 99 to 05 are mixable, 06 is one year only, 07 is one year only so far...

It sounds daunting......I had no idea that there were that many differences between the 2007 and earlier bikes for sidecar setups.

To my knowledge, as of 2006 there was only one replacement rollover switch kit - P/N 88115-03. Do you have the other two part numbers to which you refer? I would sure like to know what they are. My sidecar manual, P/N 99485-06 shows that all bikes up to 2003 need only to be programmed using the turn signals to enter control codes. 2003 and earlier need not have any change to the TSM/TSSM modules. They also do not need the 88115-03 Rololover Switch Kit.

2004 and later need to have the 88115-03 Rollover Switch Kit installed and then need also to have the Digital Technician unit used so as to toggle to sidecar useage.

My manual makes no mention of short usage not requiring that protection. That's good because if the bank angle sensor is not changed for sidecar usage, a hard turn in either direction will definitely shut the engine down.

Yes, there are several choices inside of the Digital Technician but that will be handled by the technician when he knows the year of the bike and so forth.

As to the Cables for the radios, that only affects the TLE/U and has to do with the change that Harley made to the Harmon-Kardon radio, I believe in 2006. When you order the sidecar through a dealer by quoting your VIN number at time of purchase, it will have all of the necessary cables included with the sidecar when it arrives. There should be no extra parts needed. They choose the proper cables based on the VIN number of your motorcycle. If your dealer is attempting to charge you an additionial $1K or more to connect cables for your radio amplifier in the TLE/U sidecar, you should probably find another dealer, quickly.

I recently purchased a new TLE sidecar and every last part was included in the crate. By the way, since I have a 2004 motorcycle, I was given a 2004/2005 sidecar configuration. This matches the 2004, 2005 Vivid Black paint with the double medium silver stripes. The Bill of sale, however, correctly notes that the sidecar is a 2007 model sin

oh, absolutley i got it in a crate - it was ordered for a guy 2003 & he never took it. i got it in spring of 2005 at a, uh, really significant discount...

i mounted it on a 2000 bike and there were absolutly NO issues, just follow the directions and bolt it on. every last part i needed was in the crate.

its when i traded in the 2000 bike for the 2007 bike that the entertainment commeced. all of the mounting bits that i used on the 2000 bike dont fit so i have had to get a entire new kit. there was no manual so there was no crossover information.

now i have that info - its all much more straight forward.

if you order a sidecar for a particular vin bike it comes with the right bits, however if you have a used sidecar or a loose crate sidcar its a whole different story.

at this point in the game i would have been less work but a few more bux to trade in my sidecar with the bike and have gotten a new one with the new bike - but at this point i have it all the same anyway - live and learn. next go round in 4 or 5 years ill trade the whole unit in for a matched pair. ie one with a FG vin code...

if i would have had access to the manual in august life would have been much simpler

I had forgotten that you mentioned quite some time back that you purchased it in a crate separate from the bike. You're quite right that there would be no problam with a pre-2004 bike. I think in 2004 they went to serial bus electronics and that required another sensor.

I'd sure like to know if you got it working and I hope you didn't have to spend too much more money. The lack of a book has caused our colleague RND no end of concern as well.

And, also the change to the 96" engine in 2007 caused no end of other mechanical issues for you and others. All new frame, engine, and, therefore, different connector kit and mounts.

If only there were someone at HD who completely understood the sidecars. They have a good product with a rather mysterious marketing process and too little training on the part of the technicians.

Let us know how you came out. Hope it works!
