Harley Sidecars - which year sidecars fit which year bikes?

I want to attach a Harley sidecar to my 2003 Electraglide Standard (FLHTI) Harley.

Does anyone know which year sidecars will fit this bike?

I think that there was a change in the frame with the introduction of the newest air-cooled V-twin engine (i.e. TC-88 in 1999) - but I don't know whether this will affect fittment of earlier sidecars.

Any help would be greatly appreciated so that I know which sidecars I may consider.

Thanks very much!

Although the TLE cars bodies appear the same, the mountings have evolved through the years.
Harley has made frame changes for various reasons in the last ten years or so. In '95,'97, in '99 (to accomodate the twin cam engine) and I believe since then also. Some changes affected the sidecar mountings, some may not have. The Motor Company would be the best source of what will fit on your bike. I've gotten good information from Harley's using the Company's home site. They will get back to you.
V-Twin used to handle obsolete mounts for the H-D cars. I don't know if they still do.
The dealers aren't much help since most have never mounted a sidecar and a lot of them are "New kids on the Block" experienced in Twin cams and maybe as far back as some Evolution powered Harleys.

Hi Lonnie,

Thanks for the info - I will visit the MoCo website, and seek their help.

One follow-up question - what is "V-Twin"? Is there a website associated with that?

And, I definitely agree with you regarding the dealers. The service that I've received at my local dealer has been mediocre at best. I could start a whole other thread regarding that! However, other dealers a bit further away are better. If I were to seek the help of a dealership, I would definitely first inquire as to their experience with the mounting of sidecars.

Thanks again,
-- John.

V-Twin Manufacturing is a long standing after market Harley parts and accessories store. You'll find their URL with a V-twin search.

Hi Lonnie,

Thanks for the info on V-Twin. You were right - a quick Google search revealed their website: http://www.vtwinmfg.com. They do have a page for sidecar repro parts - but it looks like mostly for older sidecars.

Regarding the MoCo - I went to the H-D website - they offer a snail-mail contact address, but no email address for asking technical questions. For that they defer to the local dealerships. I guess there must be at least one decent one out there somewhere.

Follow-up question to all: does anyone know of a dealership which has experience with sidecar-related matters in the NJ/PA/NY/DE area?

Thanks again!

Mark Spencer of Spencer cycles Bellville NJ
(973) 450-4800
They do Harley work and custom fabrication. He has worked on my Harley/Liberty sidear unit and I have had no issues. They do just as much or more sidecar work than the dealrships.Give them a call they are better than all of the harley dealrships in the area and are certified to too harley repairs even though they are an independent shop!!!Check them out.
Speak to Otto or Ralph and say Doc Lenny referred you.
Your other alternative is to go ot of state to a sidecar only shop like
gary haynes, claude stanely, etc.
