OK Guys I'm a newbe so be gentle. I just purchased a Honda GL1500 with Champion car. It will need tires soon. I WILL STAY WITH BIKE TIRES. Any recommendations on brand and models? It has Dunlop Elites now. I switched my HD Electra Glide on 2 wheels to Metzler ME880 for longer wear. Would like long wearing tires for the hack rig. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have found that the Metzeler 880 Marathon tires are a great rain tire and although the tread is cut deeper than the Dunlop tires the rubber compound is softer and for us the harder rubber Dunlop Elite II or III tires give better all around mileage.

My 2 cents. Have owned our '95 Honda GL1500SE rig over 9 yrs. It had OEM Dunlops when purchased. Have tried Avon, Metzeler and then Avon again. Reason: Avon Venom tire has stronger sidewall! A sidecar rig is roughest service tires can be exposed to, so Avons were chosen again. Am very pleased with them and the only other option I might consider in the future, is a Formoza 175/60/16 Darkside rear tire, to obtain much longer rear tire life. I quit using Avons in 1987 when I found I could dismount them easily with a short tire spoon. I didn't want to chance getting a flat and having the tire wrap around my front axle at speed. Back then they had weaker beads than the Metzeler or Dunlop tires.
That may not be the case now but I'm sticking with Dunlop.

Thanks Lonnie & Papa Smurf. One big objective is tire wear, but of course I do not want to forgo safety. After riding the rig this weekend I am relatively sure I will not ride it without the car so could consider going the car tire route. Don't have to make that decision yet, the fellow I purchased from had just replaced the rear. Thanks again.
