Hi;Just installed new tire on my 92 so have a little while but probably not long rate it goes thru rear tires!Anything new on the use of car tires on these?Last I saw it sounded unlikely could do that without purchase of some fairly expensive wheels etc?Better I look into this now while at home rather than 700 miles away with a bald rear tire! Thanks for any hints!

Bob,

I'm running a Dunlop Wintersport, 175/60R16 on an unmodified rim. Our good friend in Cameron mounted it. It actually fits the rim and bike better than the Metzler I took off. With the Met, I had to deflate the tire and squeeze it out of the frame. The inflated Dunlop rolled right in. I've only got about 5,000 miles on it, 3,000 with sidecar, but it still looks new. Running 40 psi

Mike;I just looked at Dunlop site and nothing shown in that size or was I in wrong place was in the car tires? Also tried to check on those forenza 175s that others are useing the company not very helpful but finally did decide they were out of stock and had no idea what the price was!!Now have some time to check on things the tire they put on is Dunlop 160/80 B16 I believe but at that point was just happy to get anything installed on Sturgis week and in only couple hours as was ready to head back to Wi.

Mike, I would like to have the Dunlop Wintersport on my 1500, I hear that it is a shorter tire, does that cause you any problems? Did you have any problems mounting it on the stock GL1500 wheel?

No problems at all. It took two of us to mount it, but it really wasn't that terribly hard to do.

It is marginally shorter, but not so much that you notice when riding or straddling the bike.

Mike:That tire sounds interesting BUT! in reading the info it is run flat which on one hand sounds good but then it says to be used with one of those tire pressure monitering gadgets! The info says it can be driven on for some distance after loosing air but I would always be worried that it had a leak and I didn't realize it!Afraid I would have to be crawling under checking the pressure all the time!!If lost air and you didn't realize it you could try to drive with it in affect flat and get into real trouble!I assume you have considered this case too but then maybe is a risk we take to get a tire that sounds good for our rigs!!Just a thought!!

I check all tire pressures before every ride anyway, I always have. Police Harleys have been equipped with Dunlop PT Touring tire which they claim is a run flat for a number of years now. I don't believe they come with pressure monitors.

I believe you would know if you lost pressure on the road.

Worse comes to worse, you could always add this.

You'd still be dollars ahead over replacing bike tires every 10k miles or less.

I have the Federal Formoza. Had it installed this spring about 3,000 miles since then. It does have a smaller diameter, but I found that was a plus. It seemed my bike was geared to tall for a hack and rider-passenger with a combined weight of 450#, so the new ratio is better. I installed the Steer Rite at the same time. I run the tire at about 36 PSI. Would not do anything different. 🙂

Good writeup. One of the pillars of the local here is underway at the same CT. He said that overall he likes, but some rough roads, may be somewhat 'distorted. Highway riding, he used to use something other than the CT now.
