Fork Mods 92 GL1500
Hi: Another question!Love this rig but wondering about useing one of the modified forks! What concerns me somewhat is the stress on the fork etc.I can live with muscleing it around the curves but seems that this mnuch strain must be awful hard on the front end yet I never see anything about things breaking find myself wondering what would happen if the handle bar broke etc?? Seems that the modified fork might take lot of strain off the front end??See Champion has the triple tree where California has a complete fork assy?
No need to worry about breaking anything.
The raked trees are to make it easier to steer the rig. Like power steering. Quite expensive but worth it if you have trouble with the stock setup. Some find the modified rake too easy to steer. A little touchy for some. Some rakes go from 3 to 6 degrees.
If you convert to the 5 or 6 degree trees forget about safe solo riding with the bike. It won't want to self center like a stock front end. As you reduce trail you also reduce the caster effect induced by a longer trail.

Lonnie:OK! So I am very seriously considering this change,Now see you refer to different angles?Looks like there are several outfits doing this change but are they all same angle or do I need to decide what angle I want too?In looking at Californis web they have a complete fork for the 1500 sounding like maybe the original wasn't strong enough for the S/C use?Starting to look to see if anyone in my area instals these not sure how much work it is to install??I live just east of the TwinCites.WIth luck will have the bike many years so may be worth the cost for easier handling! Thanks!
According to the nomenclature: the CSC "Power Trak front is the only one that does not require fairing mods and uses longer fork tubes rather than extender "slugs". No doubt this one costs more than just the triple tree units. I don't see the degree of rake used.
The Champion trees are 6 degree for the 1500's and 4.5 degree for the 1800's so Honda must have made trail changes in the 1800cc bikes.
I don't have numbers for any other vendors but "Side Effects" in Kamloops, BC may have different rakes.
Any full service bike dealer can install them but many will require that the sidecar be removed so the bike will roll onto a lift. A lot of shops have a "no lift, no work" policy.
You could wait till fall when you are headed back to Yuma and have Doug Bingham's SideStrider shop in Van Nuys, CA do it for you.

Hi Lonnie!Tried to find the power trac but a search didn't work on that name?Talked to Champion they do have them in stock but like the idea of not having to modify the fairing!Have you heard from any one that has used the different ones on the 1500?Bingham would be a good thought but the rig stays back here in the cold country.Have an old Guzzi out there would like to find a car for it,What I remberwhen had velorex on it 20 years ago my son objected to being up in the air all the time.Like that about these heavy cars they spend more time on ground!Thinking of a Ural for the guzzi I believe they are heavier?
Ever hear of ballast?
I don't like the chair in the air anymore either but you will note there is a Velorex 563 Tour on my 2008 Low Rider in my avatar pic.
