fine tuning the mounts
this is my first hack ever, I got it mounted up (friendship 1 on a 74cb750) seems to track well ect. the issues are: during hard acceleration it pulls right, during hard brakeing you get a left pull. before I starts moving adjustments all over any suggetions? the setup I used (or tried to use ) is 1/2 inch lean out on the bike and 1/2 or less toe in. It does need some balast due to lift up on right hand turns and any speed.
You're looking for neutral steering at a constant speed on the roads most travelled. Everything else is a compromise.
You have an asymetrical vehicle so the forces from one side will affect handling somewhat. The sidecar has a slave (unpowered) wheel and when you give the rig throttle it will hang back and have a tendency to pull the rig to the right.
When you have reached cruising speed the rig should have neutral steering with no pull to the right of the left.
As you slow down or brake the slave wheel will want to keep spinning and (without a sidecar brake) will push the rig to the left somewhat.
These tendencies are easily corrected by minor countersteering to offset the pull. This is something that most sidecar pilots learn quickly, to anticipate this known phenomenon and to correct it as it occurs.
By all means place adequate ballast to the rear and low if possible in the boat until you are comfortable with the rig. A good ratio of weight is 2/3rds bike weight and 1/3rd sidecar weight.
Placing soft ballast to the rear serves two purposes: To keep the sidecar from dipping it's nose into the sand from a sudden stop and soft ballast won't damage the body if it happens to shift.
