EML support group??
If you hang around unbalanced people long enough you will need the third wheel and their support. It took three years of lurking, 2 years of USCA membership (donated by my brother)and it happened. I bought a 85K100 Kitted to an 89 EML GT2E. The tug is no problem. I have 100K mile on a K100rt. I will need help with the car!!!! The kit was assembled by BMW of St.Louis but they are gone now. They have reappeared as a private unautherized repair shop but don't have the answers to my questions. I will start with 2 questions and work up from their.
1. It needs brake pads for the car wheel It is a Brembo caliper that looks just like the ones on the bike but it is about 2/3s the size the wear pads are about 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 inch. I'm sure it is a standard brake for some smaller bike. any Ideas on what or how I will find them?
2. It has the original tires from 1990 that are not worn out, but very weathered. They a tubless tires but appear to have tubes in them. Is there a reason I would have to put tube in them when I replace the tires.
Harold Short McP KS. .
Hi Harold - I'd take one of the pads to a good auto parts store. You'd be amazed at what those guys know.
I had a Gold Wing/EML combo with the tubeless tires. Didn't need or have tubes. There must be a story there... Are the rims in good shape? When you have the tires replaced the tire shop can probably check to make sure there ar no leaks.
Harold,
I;'d suggest that you go to http://www.ebcbrakes.com/Assets/USA2006MCcat.pdf
and download the catalog [it's about 3.5MB]. One of the really nice features of the catalog is the illustrations of each and every brake pad they offer with measurements. If you set your display to show the .pdf at 100% the pictures are even life size! Go to page 78, my EML pads were FA47's. Look at the application chart and pick a common bike. Then go to your local bike shop and ask for pads for that bike. If you ask for pads for a sidecar you'll probably just get a blank stare. Best of luck!
BTW, there is a very underused EML SIG called EML Sidecar Lounge on Yahoo.
The URL is http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/EML_SCL.
Al, For some reason the link to the yahoo eml group did not work for me. I went to yahoo Groups and did a search and then found it. Here is a direct cut and paste link for the group:
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/EML_SCL/
I don't understand that but ..oh well.

Drop the period off the end of the original link. Then it works. We've all been taught to put a period at the end of a sentence, but it really screws up links. :0)
Some day I will learn not to put the "period" after a URL when it ends a sentence.

I do it all the time and never notice until someone complains. :0)
I first concluded that this gang is unbalanced and now I'm afraid they have no life!!!! And I have joined them!!!! Let me illustrate.
1. I write my post and enter it at 10:30pm my time by 9;00am I have 4 replies that have enough information to solve my problems.
2. 9:30am I go to coffee break and solve world problems.
3. 10:30am I begin to work the net to see if I can solve the brake pad problem using the data Al has given me but ignore the suggestion that FA47 is correct for his car because his car is newer then mine and the diamentions don't match.
4. Noon I have Lunch sandwich and jerky. take a nap.
5. 1:30pm Back to the EBC catalog. Then take the wheel and caliper off so that I can get a better measurment. It looks right but the measurments still don't match. I did find the Yahoo group.
6. 3:00pm go meet the guys for coffee. The world still needs wisdom.
7. 3:30pm decided that if the mesurments were for the space inside the caliper--- FA47 would work?!!!! Hit the Dennis Kirk catalog and they had them and I put in my order.
8. 5:00pm I writing this drivil. What has happened to my Life????
Steve--- I will let you know about the tires some time later in the winter. I hope there isn't story. The wheels appear to be in good shape and they are the type with the cast spider bolted on to tabs welded on the rims.
Thanks Guys I'll take it from here but I will be back. Harold Short
Harold,
When you get your pads be careful about the little spring clip. Take notice about how it came out because it isn't readily apparent [to my feeblke mind] exactly how it goes back in. Good Luck!
Yes Al It is just like the other brakes on the k100 only smaller. I learned a long time ago. Don't take all the brakes apart at once. Harold
YOU ALSO MIGHT TRY PERRY BUSHONG IN FORT WORTH. X/BMW DEALER WHO NOW RUNS AN INDEPENDENT HACK STORE. I MAY HAVE MISSPELLED HIS NAME THOUGH. TOM FARL;EY
