I need to change the existing tire on my newly acquired Champion Escort. The existing tire is a Dunlop 145 radial which appears to have been discontinued. I would appreciate any suggestions for a replacement.

Thanks!

Paul

How many do you want, my local Les Schwab has 6 of them between 5 and 7 years old, be sure to check the mfg date, they were used on long gone cars like Le Car, Yugo and early Escorts. I had to go with a 155 13R and had to change the car suspension because it was a bigger tire and changed the way it sat in reference to the bike.

Shadow 1100, also watch for the tollerance between the shock bolt and tire when the tilt is in the lowest position. I ran mine about 400 miles before discovering the groove. I ended up getting a new 155R13 tire from Schwab and putting a 1/4 inch spacer behind the wheel. Only problems were re-leveling the rig and the wheel nuts are only on the bolts about half way. It must be OK though because I just completed a 6,000 mile run to Alaska and back with no trouble.

I didn't have a problem there because I moved the shock and upper arm over a 1/4 inch but the fender was off set enough that I had to put a 3/16th spacer behind the rim to get it centered to the tire, quite a bit of work but well worth it and for what it's worth I run 20 lbs air which gives a nice ride and so far even wear on the tread after a 4500 mile trip to NM from Wa., now if I could only find a car tire for the back of my Shadow, it seems that that isn't gonna happen, swing arm is to narrow.

I think next time I'll try to find the 145. I am running about 26 lbs. and it seems a little rough on bumps. I have the Progressive spring/shock and have that on full light setting. Will try less air also. I have a modified rear wheel by Dauntless with a 165R15 on the rear of the bike and really like that. It has about 8,000 miles on it now and it still has better than half tread left and the roads in Alaska/B.C./Yukon are rough on tire wear because of the sharp gravel surface.
