I have a 1974 BMW R90 with a Ural side car. This is a dedicated rig with a leading link front end. 15" wheels all the way around, dual disc,s in the front and drum on the rear. I would like to add a hydraulic disc brake to the hack wheel. The rim is a 15" Akront with a 135-15 radial tire. These are all spoke wheels. It has been suggested to me that I find a 15" spoke wheel with a disc brake. Does one exist? The caliper mount and plumbing I can figure out but the wheel has me stumped. I really want to keep the spoke wheel. This rig has a modified swing arm, custom mounts for the car, Hanigan Fairing. The rig has been ridden over most of the country and a lot of Canada. Goes down the road very nicely at up to 70 MPH. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom

I guess you could find a spoked disk brake hub and have it laced up to your wheel. You'd have to find one with the same number of spokes and it would have to fit your axle - or have bearings available that would allow it to fit your axle.

Why not a drum brake setup?

I was hoping for a little more stopping power and less things to have to adjust. There is a mechanical drum brake in place but it requires a lot of attention to keep it operating properly. Tom

Why not link the URAL brake to the Beemer rear pedal Ala BMW /2? Or you can set up a dual pedal system like many others have. Adding a disc to the sidecar will still give erratic stopping and you may not have adequate fluid capacity in the front master cylinder to operate a third caliper.

There is not sufficient capacity now for the dual disc,s up front. I plan on changing to a different master cylinder for the front disc,s. I had disc brakes all the way around on an EZS rig I built years ago and noticed no erratic stopping due to the brakes. Tom

We can order you in a Watsonian 15 inch wire spoke wheel with a brake rotor on it. It would be set up to run a 125 or 135 15 tire. No idea on the price as we have never had to order one. You would have to change the axle out on the Ural to match the wheel. We have not done any thing with the R 90 for hydraulic rear brakes, on the oil heads we make a seperate pedal and run its own master.

This one doesn't have disc brakes all around, Tom. Just front ones.

Jay, I will give you a call about the wheel. Separate pedal and master is what I planned on. Thanks, Tom
