CLE Laced Wheel
I have a laced wheel for a 79 CLE and I want to know what years it will fit. I bought it to put on my rig and never used it. I have it listed on ebay, but when people ask me if it will fit there rig I don't have an answer for them. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm familiar with the RLE and TLE but not the CLE. What is it?

It's a Harley model made to fit on the shovelhead flh....and possibly other years. I was under the impression that the tle was made to fit roadglide models. I'd have to look in my manual.
cle is the version before tle
rear lower mount clamps to the swing arm
drum juice brake
tle is for the rubber frame bikes - rear lower mount clamps to frame at swing joint. fit from 84 to current - but lots and lots of futsy brake and elect and mounting changes - its hopless if you dont have the proper manual.

I'm thinking that wheel should fit up to at least 1983 maybe even up to '97 since they still had a drum brake.
The '98 and earlier manuals being obsolete makes it a bit harder to retrofit the earlier sidecars.

Hi i have the parts list for the CLE Clasic it lists a cast wheel but the years are 79 To 83 i think the spoked or laced wheel may be for the standard or LE but the year span should be the same.

I think your right about the the wheel fitting up to 83....seems to me it went back to 70 or 72. I know that the rear mounts on the earlier models attached to the travel arm and they didn't have juice drum brakes. I was thinking that maybe when they made those changes they also changed the hub. Thanks
I checked my manual...it covers 79 to 84 cle (flh),83 and later tle (flt), 85 and later rle (fxr). My rear mount attaches to the frame at the passenger peg mount. The earlier model flh with the round swing-arm attached back near or on the rear axle I believe. I don't know what the model of that hack was, le?
i originally wanted all matching cast wheels - after lots of frustration - i went with all spoked wheels. even to this day hd makes 40 spoke wheels for all the bikes - so it was real straight forward to obtain 40 spoke wheels front and side that matched.

I searched for a place that sold laced wheels for the older rigs. HD discontinued them...I couldn't find anyone in the aftermarket that sold them. Finally found one on ebay. Then I ended up mounting the car on a bike that had matching cast wheels.
