I asked this question in a post on the general discussions page, where I introduced myself as a newbie slidecar owner. I have bought an 80 model CB750K and a DJP (australian made) sidecar, but I also have a spare ZRX that I am currently selling (I liked it so much I bought a new one). I am thinking it would be a better sidecar tug.

Are there car tyres suitable for the 17" wheels, currently running a 120/70ZR17 M/C (58W) up front and a 180/55ZR17 M/C (73W) on the back(BOTH TUBELESS). The rims are 17x3.50 front and 17x5.50 rear.

I have read that it is dangerous to fit car tyres to motorcycle rims and that they have to be turned down. FRom reading posts on this site, this seems to be a major problem with the 15" wheels. There is no mention of 17" wheels however. What is involved in this?

Thanks,
Four Fingers.

15" car wheels are not the same size as 15" bike wheels so its a problem

the rest of the sizes are the same for car and bike

if you can find a tire that will fit and the bead seats with normal pressure you are good to go

One of the biggest problems if not the biggest is finding a tire/tyre with a outside dia that's close if not the same as the OEM tire that will fit between the swing arm and clear the fender,,,good luck. I would suggest that you go to the dark side forum and ask there, they are all running CT on there bikes and maybe just maybe someone is running a 17".
