Do any of you know what size car tire a BMW R 1200 CLC woud take for the rear wheel?

I'm not looking for advice on whether or not to do it. I've read those endless threads. I just want to know the size.

Size is relative. If your running a stock motorcycle wheel, I don't think anyone is going to recommend you run a auto tire on it. If your running a custom wheel, that is made to run an auto tire, then the wheel size and the clearance under or between the rear frame will need to be known. Cooper tires ( check spelling) makes several auto tires, that are within the size consideration for motorcycles, but I couldn't tell you which one would be best for your application. Talk directly to an auto tire salesperson and give them these size considerations and they should be able to help.

Thnks for the advice, Jim, but you're not correct in saying that no one aould recommend putting a car tire on my wheel. Several people have recommended just that and I know people who have the same tug that I do who have sone it. I just need to get in touch with them.

I hope those who are recommending this tyre of swap, have told you that motorcycle wheels and tires are not made the same as auto wheels and tires. The bead that locks the wheel and tire together are different. To much weight and/or air pressure could cause the wheel and tire to seperate. Consider wisely, why not every sidecar owner doesn't run auto tires on the rear of their motorcycles and only a few do. Their are known safety considerations when doing so. It is the safety of you and anyone who rides with you that you must consider when doing something no widely accepted by all sidecar riders.

it still is dependent on the exact wheel and exact tire

some motorcycle wheels will work just fine with some car tires - that said - there are very very few combinations that work.

but its not possible to say that none work - only that there are few combos that do work

as for me i had a car wheel made to fit the bike and run a car tire on a car wheel.

Jim and Tim, please believe me, I am not young and foolish. I have read every thread I can find on the subject and am aware of the problems and the non0problems that are presented as problems. That's why I asked about my rig, specifically. I have also asked this same question in the Chromeheads Forum, which is dedicated to BMW C and CLC riders. There is a member there who goes by the handle of "Pokie." He is as knowledgeable about our bikes as anyone I have ever read and he drives a rig with a car tire on the rear.

I listen to all advice and then make up my own mind. Thanks for your input.

Thanks, Beanie. I have checked with Orlando BMW and they will mount the tire for me on my annual service, next month.
