I ran my '50 Pan with disc brakes front and rear with a URAL sidecar (270# plus) without a brake with no problems even in hard stops. I later converted to a disc brake on the car but didn't feel it was worth the extra expense.

I have a Liberty sidecar with rear linked disc that I don't use either. I use the front discs on the FHLX to stop. Using the rear (linked) brake also causes a pull to the right in a normal stop. I just use the sidecar brake for holding on a hill when stopped.
I will only use all brakes in a panic stop when it makes no difference which direction the rig ends up facing.
Another plus is that front pucks are cheaper and a hell of a lot easier to replace than the rear ones are.
