Some dummy about 4 days ago left his key turned on and the battery went dead, well almost. I shut the key off and waited about an hour and upon attempting a start all I got was RRR.
I put the float charger on it over night and by morning it started. I used it most of the day an in the afternoon the same dummy did the same thing. This time the light wasn't even on. A check with a volt meter showed 1.5 volts. I put the float charger on over night and the next morning the battery only showed about 4.5 volts. 4 hours later it was finally up to about 7 volts so I knew it was at least gaining. Tonight before bed I checked and had 11.5 volts. I am hoping by tomorrow it will start.
My question is this, Did this machine come with a gel cell battery? Are gell cell batterys slower to recover from a dummy draining them?

I don't know the answer to your battery question, but rest easy: I'm sure most of us, me included, have "been there and done that." /Lee

Voltage up to 12.75 now. I'm going to keep it on float one more night.

You do know that float chargers are ment to maintain a charge and not charge a dead battery .At least thats what I have been told .

I don't know what type of battery is installed for the Aero, but if it happens to be an Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) battery, here is some comments re: charging:

The AGM batteries require a lower charge rate, for a longer time period. If your battery will not crank the engine, you should charge the battery at a rate of 1 amp or less for 18-24 hours. If you try and charge it like a wet-cell battery, you will destroy the battery.

(From: http://www.miata.net/garage/battery.html -- Miata's have been shipped to USA with AGM batteries since 1989.)
