automotive tires on bikes
How about a 5.00x16 Firestone from Coker?
The old cop bikes ran them.

I don't know about the issues with 15" tires, but I run a car-tire on the back of my Triumph Rocket. It's a 16" rim, so I use a 225/50 car tire. I've been running this tire for some time, and will obviously keep it once my sidecar is mounted up (which should be within just a couple of weeks now).
The tire, in my personal opinion, has better wear, better braking, better wet and dry traction, and looks great. It does require a bit more counter steering, but you get used this in no time at all, and after a couple of hundred miles on the tire I forgot all about it.
Some worry about cornering. I don't know what it would do on a light footed sport bike, but on an 800+ lb cruiser, I'm still able to scrape the floor boards and the tire doesn't hesitate.
I've had lots of folks give me lectures and worried looks due to the tire. It's obviously a personal decision, but I'll certainly never go back. At least not on a heavy bike.
Thanks, Claude. Glad to hear someone else has used them. How wide are they, looked narrow to me, I like the fat Dunlop that's on there now, and I'm already having a hard time gearing it right. Darn 630 chain setup. Next set I'm going to 530 and I can gear it anyway I want.
Those Coker tires are all tube type. I'd rather stay tubeless if I could. Maybe there is no car tire that fits my stock Harley rim.

In my case, the old Honda is tube type to begin with so there will be no difference there. I'm interested to see how one of those works compared to a bike tire.
I'll be putting a car tire on my VTX rig just as soon as the m/c tire wears out. Its definitely the way to go on sidecar rigs. I'll be running a 205-65-15. Go here: http://www.vtxoa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216204 if you want to see some pics of 15's installed. I haven't heard of the mounting problems that were described above.
