I am considering buying a 1976 Honda Goldwing with an owner mounted 1988 Velorex 700 side car, and have read that the original suspension and maybe the chassis is too light for a 650 pound Goldwing. Is there a US made upgrade kit for the suspension and 15mm axle on this Velorex unit? I'd need to factor in the upgrade cost if I decide to purchase this bike and side car. The asking price is $3500.
On my 563 Velorex I Just took the axle out. With some work replaced it with a Stock HD 25mm axle so I could use a Stock HD wheel and run a car tire. It was not all that big a job.
This may help you figure it out this is the part where axle goes through. The center is cut out and a bushing with a 25mm center or size you wish is welded in. Then you take a factory axle cut the head off. Slide it in. Assemble it on the sidecar. Install the wheel you wish to use. Mark the hear end of the axle Clamp in place. Weld axle . Cut off the excess. finish the weld you are dome.
