5 degree trees
What sidecar are you running?

Me? I have a Velorex I got off Ebay we think its a 74-81 model 562
The old Harley adjustable trees did not have a lot of rake to them and all so they ran a friction dampener. A old 45 trikes are REAL easy to turn over. I have drive 3 or 4 of them even one that had the right side tank shifter. HHI makes them in 3 degrees.
onahog are you running a Harley sidecar? Looking forward to your feedback after you get some miles on it. I thought I would never say it but I might be putting some 5 degree on mine when I can get up the money.
46U..
Yes, i was running a 1988TLE on a 2002 FLTHC...I put a fare amount of miles on it the first year with the stock trees...I changed them out for a set of 5 degree trees over the winter. It made one heck of a diff to steer it.Alot easier on the arms..
I recently sold the complete unit and bought a 2009 Tri glide..
I found that the sidecar took alot of the power away from the bike, even tho the bike had a 95" kit with S&S gear drive cams, and a reworked carb..
I also found the unit to ride rather rough...iit seemed to ruin the suspension of the bike, and our roads here are not the smoothest in the world..
I have now put about 3000 miles on the Tri glide and found it to be a much smoother machine to ride...The steering is kinda similar as no lean is required, but the bike has alot more power in stock form..103 "....The trike does have disadvantages over the sidecar, My dog is ed at me, but overall Im happy with the move....I have had about 400 2 wheeled HDs, and I guess after a few years of riding one, I like change...
Anyhow, My overall opinion of raked trees for a hack unit or trike is 110%..Tis prob the best thing 1 can do to aid the steering heavyness...
HB..
Thanks for you input. I have a stock 88 and do not see any if much decrease in power but at my age I am not a speed demo any more. I was over joyed on how well my 02 Ultra with all most 90K pulls the hack. Even thaw I have not owed 400 HDs in my life but have worked on many more then 400 and have owned and driven Harley s none stop for over 40 years. I have found that a lot of cam sets take away from low end torque. The only thing I cannot do the a HD till I sell my machines is build twin cam cranks but any other ones no problem. I will have to say this is my first experience with a HD with a sidecar. If I work on a rig for a customer they take the hack off before bring it to me unless it is something that is quick and easy.
Thanks
Jeff
I am eating my words. On the roads I drove today which where state highways and back roads I noticed a good bit of loose in power. No real big deal but I did a lot more shifting.
