4.5º or 6º rake

Hi all, newbie here. Just added a '94 Goldwing with a Champion Escort to the stable. Will keep the 2011 Ural "Da'mit" company.
The stock Goldwing triple tree needs changing asap, but my question is, how do you know when to go with a 4.5º rake and when to go with a 6º? Have read the various threads about changing the rake, understand the benefits of reducing trail, but none that I have found talk about which angle is best for a Goldwing 1500 straight line highway cruising.
Since this will be a one time purchase, I want to get it right from the get go. Can't afford to be doing any trial and error testing.
Thank you for any experience or knowledge you can share.

4.5 degree will track a bit better on straight line highway driving. 6 degree is a bit lighter on the steering. When companies first developed the tree's 4.5 was as far as they could go so they settled for it. Then one machinist figured that if you rotate the pinch bolts you can go out to 6 degree, this is why I think that you see so many 4.5 degree units out there. If I were designing one from scratch, we would go with 6 degree and not bother with 4.5 degree. Either will be better then stock, either will work well for you, people tend to tell you what they purchased is the best or what they offer for sale is the best (we offer both).

Thank you Jay. It was based on a comment you made at the BMW Rally in Salem, that I went looking for a Goldwing rig. Found one, now to make it fit me and my riding needs.
