I've come across what is claimed to be a stock HD side car, made by California Sidecar co. It's installed on a 1980 Dresser, 4 point hookup. Doesn't appear to have any suspension. Fiberglass body, small car tire.
two questions - did California make the stock cars for AMF then??
and questions 2- aside from a subframe for the Sportster, what will be needed to put these two together.
Not a bad looking car and I think, when painted to match the bike would make a nice comb.

Harley has never made a sidecar for the sportster, only the big twins. The FL's and FXRs. None for the Softtails either. California makes a sidecar that will attach to a Harley but it has never been a Licensed H-D product.
With no pix I can only guess, but you probably have a California Companion or Companion GT. With no apparent suspension it's probably the earlier (pre '88) version which had torsional suspension. These models also had very small ball (marble sized) and collet suspension which should be upgraded to the '89 and up 5/8" heim joint (rod end) attachments for safetys sake. These upgrade fittings are available from California sidecar, Dauntless and others.
One other think to keep in mind is that the 2004 Sportster now has a rubber mounted engine and as such mounting kits for earleir bikes will not work. We have mounting kits for both the earlier bikes and the 2004
