07 harly sidecar on 90flhtc
new on this forum I learned a lot reading old posts I want a sidecar and wonder if I bought a 07 car if it would be practical to mount to my 90 flhtc the sidecar comes with all the mounts the seller says or would I be better of getting an older sidecar or find a complete rig any advice would be helpful I have no sidecar experience at all but I am pretty mechanical thanks a lot ping
I have a 96 sidecar on a 93 Tour Glide. Mounting was easy because they are so close in age. I don't know exactly what difficulties you will run into with a newer sidecar on an older bike. Getting copies of the sidecar service manuals for both bike and sidecar model years will explain a lot. Attached are some of the installation reference materials I have, they may tell you a little more as well.
07 mount kits are specific to 07.. lower front and rear probably won't fit - lower front "might" - going the other way 90 mounts will not fit a 07 frame.
the last few years of sidecar production the mounts became very specific - and actually might be valuable to somebody wanting to install a sidecar on a 07.
the sidecar will fit just fine - you need to get the right mounts for the year of bike.
the 07 sidecar came with the 07 mounts, the 07 brake master cyl and mods and a pedal and a oil fitting, a brake fitting and the roll over switch. plus a pile of bolts etc. you won't use the roll over switch, or the lower mounts, or the brake cyl parts. [most sellers claim the mounts are complete and leave out all the very expensive unobtainium small parts.....] and likely the wiring won't quite be right.
your best bet is to get a HD manual - well in fact your ONLY bet is to get a HD sidecar manual - to go that many years you may need to get a 90 manual and a 07 manual so much is different.
in 90 the sidecars had drum brakes, but the actual sidecar frame geometry will be right - the brace *might* be different later braces and later top mounts have the cone pivot out to the side a ways and early ones are either centered on the frame or just off to the side. the braces can be swapped.
finding the right parts will take some sleuthing - you will also want to find a trike / sidecar tree or the steering effort will really suck - folks say its ok - and it is if you are a gorilla.

Yes get the factory sidecar manuals for your bike and hack. I would not recommend spending the money on the trees until you are sure you want to make it a dedicated hack mule, as it is not recommended to run the rake trees on a two-wheeler. I know more rig drivers not running raked trees then I do running them.
From those in the Georgia Sidecar Club there is not anyone running them. I would like to try raked tree but being my rig is my only transportation and my situation does not permit me to get a set I have no problem making do with out them. I have all so talked to some that have tried them and did not like them.
Does not matter if you run disc or drum brakes both work just fine.
Thanks a lot for all the info. I made an offer on the sidecar and if he takes it I will start looking for parts and manuals ping
