Can anyone tell me if a 97' HD sidecar complete with mounts & drum brake, mount up to a 04' Road King? The sidecar was recently removed from a 2000 or 2001 Road King along with all the mounts & brackets.
Thank You for your help.

There is currently a 2007 Ultra Classic with a 1994 sidecar on craigslist in Detroit, Mi. so it can be done. There are some things that make it a little more complicated, I think you need a shorter brake pedal and new master cylinder parts and maybe a brake fluid reservoir. There is also some work to be done with the bank angle sensor. The front lower mount for newer bikes is a little simpler than the older ones. I don't know if there are other changes to the mounts. Also you may need a new clutch cable. I don't know exactly which changes need to be done for the newer model year bike. I have a 2000 FLHT that I may put my 1996 sidecar on at some point (its currently mounted to a 93 Tour Glide). I would need the brake changes other than the pedal and clutch cable for mine. The best thing would be to get both the 1997 and 2004 sidecar service manuals.

I put '98 tle on .07 FLHTP don't know all the changes between years< mine used stock mounts for the '07 yours might take the earlier mount, short brake pedal, master cylinder and frame mount reservoir
just down from your post is another (sidecar manuals) might help to explain a bunch.

you need a mount kit from the year the BIKE is. but first get a manual for the bike year [the newer of the pair] and it will give you the part number of the mount kit you need and any odd special bits that might need to be changed. i personally was looking all over for a drum brake sidecar but scored a super deal on a new in box disc brake one so thats what i have

I've got a '99 sidecar on my '02 Roadking. Used the mounts that came with the sidecar. Needed the master cylinder reservoir part. Brake pedal was ok, clutch cable OK, didn't mess with the bank angle sensor.

i think 99 to 02 is almost the same - the parts start changing faster the newer the bike, new mounts in 07, a new mount in 08, new mounts in 09

the bank angle sensor only comes into play if you have enough wt in the sidecar to corner fast enough to have the electrical power shut down - apparently hd thought that could cause a accident......
