They just had a documentary special about Salton Sea on TV. Very interesting history. Desert to boom and then to bust. Steve McQueen did a lot of his desert riding near there. The premice for Peter Fonda's first biker movie "The Wild Angels" is the gang is riding to nearby Mecca CA to retrieve a stolen motorcycle. That documentary left me with a very negative impression of heat, sand, rotting fish, poisoned sea birds and odor.
You'll have to update me otherwise.
