This is a California Friendship lll.....3..... not a 2.
This is the one sidecar that is better than a Champion Daytona 2+2....so if you can find one, you buy it.
That so-called roll cage is not a "roll cage". It's the framework for the convertible top. Nice to have that, as with it....any boat canvas shop can make you a new convertible top.
If a person wants the BEST wide sidecar, or double seat sidecar.....buy this NOW.

@miles-ladue I figured that was the case since the bars are attached to the hatch. As for the best wide body, Really? I've only seen the two of them through images and the daytona looked more dog friendly with the seats being closer to the floor of the tub and in line with what I'm looking for.
Dork, the Champion Daytona 2+2 does have a lower seat, closer to the floor, and more of a flat bench seat .....than the California Friendship lll does
I have owned one of each of these two sidecars. Both are very well manufactured...top of the line from both companies.
If you are looking for a flat bench seat close to the floor, then the Daytona 2+2 is the one for you.

Dork… I bought the same sidecar about a year ago for cheap ($2000) but it was not in such a good shape:
yours is a lot better and the price is good!
Parts are available here and there and Texas sidecar provided me with the mounts for 2008 Goldwing. Problems arise if you need the windshield: took two tries with GP Cycleworks to get one almost fitting one, after playing with cutting discs and a Dremel. Front lights are only available from the French Volvo 480 club. Sidecar shock is a pain to find as the electric actuator takes a lot of space and it has to be very thin. Brembo caliper (surely dead by now) has to be replaced by a newer model… with different fixations.
my wife loves it as being comfy and well protected from the elements. Still not try the dogs!!!
If you need a link for my “adventures” in installing it just send me a private message!
I’ll +1 this car. A big touring bike will make this a sweet ride. My bias is toward Goldwing, but a Royal Star Venture would be adequate.
Given the actual style of the car, cruisers such as HD and Indian would be an odd juxtaposition for my sensibilities, but that’s me - most sensible people look at my style sense and shake their heads.

Not sure I understand “beat to fit”? If you mean replacing any of the stock lights… I guess it is possible to install small lights such as turn signals/mini fog lights in there; I did think of it while researching replacements… Easier & nicer to order the stock units. I installed some LED bulbs where I could (knowing that they are less luminescent than normal bulbs (checked every time with my old Lunasix)… as I installed a trailer/trike kit for plugging in the sc lights with incorporates relays: no problems with the extra watts.
@prmurat1 Yeah, "cut to size, beat to fit, paint to match" Just forcing something that would electrically work to physically fit the opening. Cool, I could probably fabricate a working receptable since the electrical bits can be swapped like that
My 2 cents here. that FIII looks good, I would try to haggle the price but not to the point of loosing a deal if I felt I wanted it. as for the pups riding it is VERY easy to make a false floor to make it level with the rest of the floor to replace the seat. the seat is easy to remove, I have what I call 2 seats, one is the people seat and one is the dog seat> can swap them out in about 15 secs. I replaced all the lights on mine to LED, just used standard LED replacement bulbs. works great. does that one have the elec. lean already installed. if not unless you do what I did a d fabricate your own bracket you won't be able ever have it. the mounting bracket that goes on top of the shock post for the ram is not available anymore. We love our FIII You definitely want a big bike for it as it's a heavy car
Oh Yeah this is critical, you have to know whether the frame is far a Harley or Gold Wing. the frame set up for the Harley is too shorth for the Gold Wing and some other larger bikes, the front mount is back too far and you have to add another one ( requires a shop to do it unless you have good fabricating skills) I found that out after I bought mine and had to get the new arm and install it on mine so I could mount it, also the 1800 wing requires a sub frame due to it's frame being aluminum
Texas Sidecars should have the sub frames as well as the single add on arm if needeed
@aceinsav Good info, thank you. Out of curiosity, are the seat back a divider between passenger area and trunk? I was having dreams last night about ripping them out and refabing them into a folding divider to make a micro camper out of sidecar that the dogs can still travel in.
I think I understand the question. There is a solid wall between the trunk and inside body that the rear seat back attaches to. It does have potential to be modified so you could have a hinged section that could fold down into the trunk but it would impact your storage area. Actually a pretty cool idea
Got it. So might have to throw a steel rib in to reinforce whats being taken out with the back wall.
Also I got confirmation his particular one came off of a 2020 Street Glide.
Rip out the back wall, add a frame rib to support chair backs while in use. cut the top off of the trunk, raise it up with a half barrel that opens out to the sides and add a removable back wall to raise a canvas up to a uniform height with the cover or get a custom cover that attaches to the whole thing
If you do not want to find a HD for this sidecar, a lot of them were mounted on GL1500; mine was and I made the mistake to give the mounts to someone on this list. GL1500 are great bikes, not too pretty, but cheap to buy and cheap to run, abundance of parts and not too complicated to work on. The camper idea is interesting.... which side will sleep in: head in the front or in the rear??
