Anytime is great, but Fall Is spectacular! But you can get snow in the Fall too.

We did it!!! We had been in Durango for a BMW National Rally and were headed back to Sioux Falls, SD. It was our second trip on our first rig. My wife commented after we got to Silverton that if we had gone off the road we never be found. She had a "Front Row" seat on the precipice to the right side of the road. She was very thankful for my skill at keeping the greasy side down and the shiny side up.

We rode it two years ago last summer on our way to Hotchkiss, CO for the USCA National Rally. We rode the Durango to Silverton train both ways, then headed for Hotchkiss. It became dark soon after passing Silverton. I couldn't see the gorge beside us, but could sense the void. We will have to go back in the daylight.
