World war style bikes....
I'm a new registered user and a newbie about sidecars. I've been going through some of the post as a guest and keep coming back to this site trying to find answers to a couple questions I have. Basically about me is I've been a hardcore motorcyclist for about 7 years and have always love the look of those old World War style motorcycles with sidecars and the feel how they ride. Kind of like a CJ750, Ural, Chang Jiang or the Norton ES2. I like the idea that I could go off road with these if I wanted to but my biggest beef with them is they can do a max speed of 60mph. The reason why I found this as a problem is because I would love to take a little trip with my friends driving to some small town but don't want to be pushing the bike for all its worth just to get it up to 60. So the question I've been trying to find the answer to is there a bike that kind of looks like a Ural that could do more then 60 or some sort of mod that could get it to go a little faster? Sorry if this question has already been answered and if it has please point me to the correct post.
Have you looked into an older BMW with a Steib?
Check out Jim Bryant's site, an advertiser here.
Might be just what you are looking for, reliability and also the look.
If you make them go faster you will also need to stop, if you change one don't forget the other. ;O)
hehe. I guess stopping is an important part of the vehicle. Although there's times I wish I didn't have to stop to save time. 😉

I've seen a lot of bikes like 70's vintage Goldwings and Moto Guzzi's with Ural sidecars painted up to look like military bikes. Some of them are really impressive.
I've been pleased with my Honda GL650 Interstate as a bastard dual sport rig. I'd love something lighter with longer travel on the suspension, but hey, the price was right. Oh yeah, it'll pull 80 mph on the highway too.
Might look at a mid to late '70s BMW. Both the R100/6 and R100/7 were 1000 cc bikes (60-70 hp; about 60 lb/ft torque). They look similar to WWII bikes, but have front disk brakes as well as the power you need.
Dave:
That is such an important way to put it....if you crank up the hp, also do the same to stopping power. Those are words to live-by. Good luck to the gent trying to satisfy his preference for the nostalgic look, and the need to hang in there with the pack. Find some new buds that enjoy sidecars....and....quiet running.
A mockingbird can change its tune 37 times in 7 minutes; politicians are in awe at that feat.

Those are some really good ideas for bikes. The goldwing didn't cross my mind. Been looking around and they all look like the kind of bike I'd like to get with a sidecar.
Take a look in the Albums. We've got several ideas in Hack'ns Hacks (8)albums.
Or stop by the shop if you're in the Boise area.

So I am intrigued, I have been looking for second inexpensive sidecar rig and see that you can pick up a 70'S Goldwing for not too much money, but am wondering how hard it is to fit a Ural style sidecar to these bikes. Are there kits that are available?

I think you could almost do it with a generic kit, but I see Dauntless ( http://dauntlessmotors.com/Mountinghardware/honda_mounts.htm) has one listed specifically for the GL1000 and GL1100. I'm sure some of the other companies have them as well. Lonnie?
