http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/mythbusters-biker-vs-bug-angle-5.html

Discovery Channel has done a Mythbusters episode with a Motorvation Spyder mounted on a Victory Kingpin trying to disprove that a biker can be killed by a bug with a direct hit.
Not sure that would ever happen with any bug in North America anyhow.

The really big ones I refer to as "Mc Donalds bugs". As in quarter pounders.

Sure sounded right. Big bugs make lots of noise when hitting a face shield at 85 mph. Years ago when riding with no wind shield and no helmut (tells you how long ago it was, doesn't it?) I got a double bloody nose when hit with a BIG bug at about 75 mph. Ouch! I'm older and wiser now. Wear a helmut and run a wind shield all the time now!

On my trip down to Turkey in 86 at something like 125-135kmh I had a nice bug (2cm) hit the frame of the sunglasses right in between the eyes. The eyes burned and the head aked enough to look for some shelter and sleep a couple of hours near Nuernberg somewhere in the forest.
A tropical horn beadle is about 5-10 times as heavy (6-7cm) then that thing and damn hard. I am pretty sure a meeting with those at enough speed might even knock you out
