Vetter sidecar to Kawasaki vulcan 1500
Does anyone know anything about making this side car work for this bike?
1994 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500,/ a Vetter sidecar, from the year 07. It has the mounts for a GoldWing that came with it. They won't work on the Kaw. They were both gift's so I can get in the wind with my Service Dog. My legs are messed up. Still got them but can't feel em below the knee. So I need to know if I need to trade the Vetter off or make it work?? I can't afford to take it to a shop so am waiting for a local side hack guru to come by and look at it. Thought I'd take a shot here??????
The Vulcan should be a good tug, don't know much about the Vetter.
I can state from experience that a good sidecar rig is outstanding as a disabled persons vehicle. My legs are numb from the knees down also
and the muscles below the knee don't work. I up shift by hooking my heel in front of the shift lever and downshift by putting my dead foot on the lever.
Most of my braking is done with my right handout if I need more brakes a dead foot can supply pressure to the brake pedal.
This wouldn't work very well on a two wheeler as it might cause a skid and a crash. But if a sidecar skids a little, no harm done.
I you have to park where backing up is necessary park pointed uphill so gravity is your reverse gear.
What is wrong with your legs? Mine is neuropathy due to pernicious anemia.
We are working on a similar conversion with a Terraplane/Shadow conversion. The Terraplane has a 3 point mount system. To use this method the mounts would have to be custom fabricated on the bike.
In our case the owner opted to use a DMC 4 point mount set. Quite expensive, as the 2 systems (bike side & sidecar side) cost $1,475. plus mounting cost and sidecar cost.
In your case, with a freebie sidecar, it would be quite reasonable and you would have a solid sidecar outfit.

Thanks for the input. I talked with Jay @ DMC and without having a visual on the bike & Hack we agreed to the 4 point conversion and even talked about adding brakes. Real knowledgable guy! He's up north of me and I don't have dollars set aside yet. I am curious if going a different route would be cheaper???? Like selling the Vetter and getting something that would make more sense. Again I'm ignorant on how the attachment would be best. I'm thinking that the Vulcan 88 is enough bike for the job but would I be better getting another bike and keep the side hack( I have mounts for a GoldWing that came with it??) The radiator seems to be in the way for the upper front mount and the bike just seems too short and compact???
To Pheloniusβ¦.I too have nueoprathy but mines from spinal stenosis. Now I have Fibromyalgia of the feet and lower legs but my big thing is chronic pain. Gotta get in the wind so I can forget about it for awhile:)
